Fuses and Circuit breakers
Using a low quality breaker or fuse could mean catastrophic failure of your home or vehicle. Avoid a fire by using high quality devices recommended below!
How to size a Breaker or Fuse:
- Take the continuous wattage rating on a device and divide it by the voltage it operates at (12/24/48V)
- Let's imagine that you have a 1500W 12V inverter. Take the wattage rating and divide it by the voltage to find the maximum current:
1500(W)/ 12(V) = 125 (Amps) - Next, take the maximum current (125Amps in this situation) and multiple it by 1.25:
125 (Amps) X 1.25 = 156.25 (Fuse Size) - You need a fuse that can trip at 156.25A. But they only make 150A and 200A fuses. So what you will need to do is round up to 175 or 200A fuse or breaker.
- Be sure to use a wire that can handle 200A, so if a fault or overload were to occur, the cables can carry 200A to the fuse to trip it.

Large Lithium Battery Fuse: Class T
|
This is considered the best option but it is expensive and they cannot be reset thousands of times like the MCCB. But it does not have moving parts and has a smaller chance of failure (both have lows odds, but a fuse is always more reliable).
The best use case for these is connecting large bus bars in parallel. If you have two stacks of server rack batteries that you want to connect, use this. Click here for a 200A T Class Fuse and Holder Click here for a 300A T Class Fuse and Holder |
Terminal Fuse for Individual Batteries
|
These are convenient! If you are running piles of 12V batteries in parallel, or anything in a marine environment, these are incredible. Breaking capacity or AIC of 10,000A, and made by the best company around. Many cheap batteries do not have over current protection, and this fixes that issue.

Bolt On 12V Fuse: Very Versatile,
Avoid the Knock Offs!
|
Amazon is filled with fake AMG fuses and they are incredibly dangerous. Check out my test where I pulled 300A through a 150A knock off for 15 minutes! These things can cause a fire: Click Here
Downside: You can only use these with 12V systems! Do not attempt to use these on a 48V system, they are not rated for it! But if you buy the real ones, they are fantastic! They are nice and thick and work great. Spend a few dollars more and get the right one: Click Here To Purchase an Original BUSS AMG Click Here to Purchase a Fuse Holder |
