High Voltage Hybrid System

I review lots of offgrid inverters, but what I run my house and workshop with are high voltage battery/inverter systems.

High Voltage System Benefits:
More efficient. Less heat. Less fan noise or no fans at all!
  • Smaller and easier to install devices. Higher voltage means less current, so less hardware.
  • Smaller wires for install. Instead of using massive 4/0 cables, I can install a massive battery bank with 6 AWG wires that can be purchased for cheap at any hardware store.
  • Same price as everything else. Or cheaper!
So overall, less drama. These are absolutely the future, but they are still trickling into the market every year.

High Voltage System Downsides:
  • Needs professional installation or you need to know what you're doing. Most high voltage batteries are pretty safe to install yourself because they will not turn on and create a high voltage until it has communication from the inverter. But it is still possible! If you follow the instructions, you will never have any issues. But high voltage is incredibly dangerous if you dont!
  • Many high voltage systems have propreitary batteries. This is changing now. There are many high voltage inverters that work with a range of high voltage batteries. But you need to ensure that they will communicate with each other. Also, this makes it difficult to add new batteries to your system in the future. They need to be the same type and voltage.
And that is about it. You will install these high voltage systems the same way you install a 48V system. Once you move up to high voltage, there is no going back. Especially if it does not have fans. They are the coolest systems around! Literally and figuratively.

What I am currently running my house with

Picture
This system has taken my entire house offgrid. It is perfect. It works with any grid tie inverter you want, and also has its own built in MPPT's if you want to add your own DIY arrays. Very versatile system! I have been running it for a year and just love it!

The software is incredible too. I really wish the other hybrid inverter manufacturers copied their interface. It is dead simple and easy to update the settings. I love mine!

How I Power My Workshop

Now this thing is my current favorite! It has zero fans so it is dead silent.
  • Easy Install
  • High Efficiency
  • Dead Silent
  • Scalable
  • EV Charge built in
It is the only option I can use in my workshop because I have to film videos there. When I had my EG4 inverters running, I had to turn them off every single time I wanted to film. This is the first inverter and battery combo I am actually excited for after installing it. I cannot believe it is dead silent and works so well. After I set it up, I have not changed a single setting. It just works.
